In 1962, Michael Cardew brought the Nigerian
potter Ladi Kwali over to England. These images, provided by ex-Winchcombe
potter Don
Jones, show Ladi making a traditional Nigerian water pot at Winchcombe Pottery.
Don told me that Ladi made two large pots during the demonstration and worked
very quickly because she was used to the clay drying out fast in her home
village.
She was given an old oil drum to work on and sung as she drew up the clay
to make her pots.
